Lise Lebleux

Lise Lebleux, was born in 1998 in Vesoul, Haute-Saône. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Lyon. She works in several European countries, mainly Germany, Austria and France. Her artistic practice consists of creating sound compositions based on her own field recordings. Her artistic practice focuses in particular on the combinations between individuals and their acoustic environments. The idea is to follow these people as they listen to their working environment and to cross-reference these moments of sound with the wider acoustics of the area. In this way, each sound piece is the result of sound recordings of a specific and unique space, with its own intrinsic conditions.

Group exhibition on view until the end of September in Bad Ischl, in Austria, as part of the European Capitals of Culture 2024 :

États des lieux is an acoustic study between a person and their sound environment. This study extends to various individuals associated with their workplaces; individuals allowed me to come and record them in their daily and singular working spaces. Recording a person, and in particular their voice, is above all based on a relationship of communication, listening and trust. The idea was to record the unique sound imprint of an individual in his or her environment: an echo, a breath, a gesture, as well as the sounds specific to the location. During the sound recording sessions, both the person and I are attentive and sensitive to the sound environment around us. The person tries to describe and tell me about the sounds that exist in their space, and guides me during the recordings towards certain sounds that have aroused their interest.

The sound composition is also made up of wider sounds present in the area. I try to extend this acoustic relationship to the particular sounds of the landscape, such as the echo of the mountains or the edge of the sea. Each space has its own acoustic characteristics. We hear not the sound itself, but the resonance of the sound in the space. Each sound is therefore marked by the space in which it emerges; it has the imprint of the place, without which we would not be able to hear it. In his book, Composer des étendues, Bastien Gallet explains that: "A sound space is always a mixture of expanse and place, an expanse resonating in a place. We call this mixture a 'state of place'. ".

The field recordings were made in different places and countries. The recording locations were determined by the encounters I had and the spaces I crossed in the course of my sound work. It may be a question of a desire to listen to a sound, an invitation or even a period of residence. This sound project has given rise to radio broadcasts on Radiophrenia and *Duuu Radio, as well as a sound installation at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof.
